Quote Of The Day

Courtesy of Alex Nogales, President of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, when asked about the current visibility of hispanics in an article about this past weekend's ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards.

"Before, we were always the poor immigrant who got vandalized or the dope pushers on TV, take your pick. Now, Jimmy Smits is over there on 'The West Wing' getting ready to be the President Of The United States. I mean, that's a big step."

Uhmmm. Considering all the immigration stuff that's been going on over the past month and the fact that Dubya is still the real President of the USA, I'm not sure that having a a C-list actor portray the president on a tv show that is being cancelled at the exact same time he is taking the fake oath of office is really a big sign of progress. Sorry. Wish it were the beginning of some significant change on tv, but I gotta call him on this. If they actually let 'The West Wing' continue past Smit's his first day in office, maybe I could accept it a little more as some sign of really significant media visibility. Otherwise, I think it's just tv executives pandering to a huge portion of the population that they've pretty much ignored up to this point and will probably continue to ignore in the future.

"I demand an immediate congresssional investigation to find out why this show is being cancelled, just as I am becoming President."
