The Next Napolean Dynamite?

'Fat Girls' screened at the Tribeca Film Festival recently and some are saying it could be the next Napolean Dynamite. 21 year old writer/director/actor Ash Christian is a young gay Texan who decided to make a semi-autographical film about a chubby gay kid and his fat hag who have trouble getting dates for their graduation dance. Christian, who has had some success as an actor in Hollywood, decided that he was sick of playing the best friend role and wrote the screenplay, raised the money and directed the partially improvised film in order to put a chubby gay kid as the lead in a movie. And now it's playing at Tribeca for some very famous and connected people. Its low budget and out-there sense of humor have some industry people saying it could be the next Napolean Dynamite which was made for $400,000 and made over $44 million at the US box office before becoming an even bigger hit on DVD. I say good luck to Christian and I will definitely check out the movie if it makes its way to Boston this year. You should too. He's already working on his next film about a kid in a wheelchair who is determined to play Jesus in a local community theatre play. The whole story is here:
