No, the crappy rapper with a band aid on his face is not getting out of jail, but the beautiful Canadian/Portuguese chanteuse Nelly Furtado is about to release her new album soon and the first single hits next week. Supposedly, she's pulling a Jewel and is going to be heading in a totally different direction music wise - more towards hip-hop/dance/R&B instead of the more folk/latin she's known for. If you ask me, she's always walked the edge of hip-hop/dance and is one of the few artists to use just all types of music styles in her songs, but since she's best known for "I'm Like A Bird", she gets tagged with the chick folk tag.
To demonstrate my point, here's a clip of her "Powerless" video from a few years ago that was the first single off of her previous album. It unfortunately wasn't a big hit here, but should have been. It's pop/dance with lots of banjo - yes banjo. See what I mean about using lots of different styles? Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
