Yes, my American Idol furvor is at fever pitch. Tonight is the top 3. Yah! I'm such a geek, but what can I say? I love any show where people are pitted against each other in an unfair and ridiculously uneven horse race and winning the show may be the ticket to fame and fortune while losing may be a ticket back to the McDonalds middle management program. American Idol, The Oscars, Miss America - they're cheesy and ridiculous and I can't get enough of them. Now that I've finished defending my indefensible guilty pleasure, let's do a quick breakdown.
Taylor Hicks - The least talented of the 3, but his endearing weirdness is probably gonna win him the whole thing, even if he's just mediocre for the next two weeks.
Elliott Yamin - A great voice and the personality of a wet mop. He really needs to turn it on tonight to make it to the finals.
Katharine McPhee - With the right song, she's the most talented of the 3, but she needs 2 flawless performances and a lot of prayers if she's gonna make it to the finals. Even though it wasn't her fault, Chris's fans are going to try and destroy her chances tonight since they see her as the reason he got kicked off last week (ignoring the fact that he had been coasting for many weeks and never gave his best performances on rock nights, despite being the 'rock' guy). JM's And Then There Were 3
In honor of the show tonight, here's a video clip of Frenchie Davis (kicked off the 3rd season for her internet porn past) performing the role of Effie in a West Coast production of 'Dreamgirls' (originated on Broadway by Tony Winner Jennifer Holliday). She's amazing and would have won if those topless photos hadn't surfaced before the AI Top 12 performances began. This is also the role that 3rd year Top 6 finalist, Jennifer Hudson, is going to be playing in the movie version that comes out this December, starring Beyonce. Watch the whole clip here to see Frenchie sing the song - it doesn't start for a couple of minutes into the clip, but it's so worth it. Enjoy.
