Pretty Lackluster. 'RV' came in a little under the forecast ($22), 'United 93' came in way under the forecast ($19) and 'Stick It' came in significantly better than estimated ($6). Actually, I don't think any of it's a surprise, especially 'United 93'. Despite its great reviews, I think it's still too soon. I understand the need for those who want to honor the people on that flight, but honestly, can you think of a more depressing film you could see right now? It's not political and it has nothing to do with the quality of the film, it's just that you know the way it ends and it's not pleasant. So who wants that reminder? There's just not enough distance between the event and the film yet - which doesn't look good for Oliver Stone's September release of 'World Trade Center'
Next week is the official start of Summer for films and the big release is the premiere of 'Mission: Impossible 3'. That ought to be another fun film to try and estimate it's weekend gross. Tom Cruise is such a controversial figure right now that I think it's gonna come in way under the forecast. Later in the week, I'll talk about the forecast from the movie studio and see if it's reasonable.

For some reason I get some misguided satisfaction that RV beat UNited 93. Too soon! Too soon!
